MANILA – The Philippines will compete in two more events before the closing ceremony of the World Games in Chengdu, China on Sunday.
As of posting time, the Philippines has two silver and two bronze medals.
The two silvers were delivered by Kaila Napolis (women's -52kg in ju-jitsu) and Chezka Centeno (women's 10-ball in billiards), while the two bronzes were courtesy of Carlos Baylon Jr. (men's sanda 56kg class in wushu) and Aislinn Yap (women's combat 80kg in sambo).
Meanwhile, Kim Mangrobang, Merry Joy Trupa, Bea Quiambao, Franklin Yee, John Patrick Ciron and Maynard Pecson will see action in the duathlon mixed relay event at Xinglong Lake Hubin Arena on Sunday morning.
Powerlifter Joyce Reboton will compete in the women's super heavyweight division at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre Gymnasium in the afternoon.
China paces the medal tally with 27-9-7 gold-silver-bronze tally, followed by Germany (15-14-14), Ukraine (15-9-11) and Italy (12-20-18).
The highlight of the closing ceremony at Chengdu International Horticultural Expo Park will be the turnover of the World Games flag to German city Karlsruhe, the 2029 host of the competition that features non-Olympic events.
Karlsruhe, which also hosted the Games in 1989, has reportedly earmarked 120 million euros for the 2029 edition.
Muaythai president Stephen Arapoc served as chef de mission of the 47-member Team Philippines, which was supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission.
The Philippines previously won two gold medals at the World Games.
Carlo Biado ruled the men's single nine-ball event in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017, while Filipino-Japanese Junna Tsukii dominated the kumite women's 50kg category in Birmingham, Alabama, USA in 2022. (PNA)
