MANILA – Zamboangueña Kristel Macrohon bagged three bronze medals in the women's 71 kg category Tuesday as the Philippines ended its campaign in the Asian Weightlifting Championships at Husnan Sports Park in Zhejiang, China.

Macrohon, the 2019 Manila Southeast Games gold medalist, lifted 105 kg (snatch) and 131 kg (clean and jerk) for a total of 236 kg to finish third behind Korean Song Kuk Hyang and Chinese Yang Quixia.

Song won the gold in snatch (121 kg) and set World and Asian records in clean and jerk (155 kg) and total (276 kg).

Yang registered World and Asian records in snatch (122 kg). She lifted 122 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 262 kg.

"First of all, I would like to thank God for giving me the strength and courage to have a successful game. Also to sir Monico Puentevella (Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president) for believing in me and giving me a chance to compete and to my coaches and teammates," she posted on Facebook.

"I really want to thank my coach Antonio Agustin, 'Coach, I just want to say thank you for your constant support and guidance. I’m truly grateful to God for blessing me with a mentor like you,' and I want to sincerely thank my family for always being there for me. Your love, support and prayers mean the world to me," she added.

Aside from the three bronzes, Philippines also took home seven silver medals -- three each from Cebuano Elreen Ann Ando (women's 64 kg) and Zamboangueña Rosegie Ramos (women's 49 kg), and one from Cebuano Fernando Agad Jr. (men's 55 kg). (PNA)
